Presentation at Arts BC Cultural Commons:
Empowering BC’s Creative Community, Penticton, BC

I am looking forward to presenting tips on strategic planning at next week’s Arts BC Cultural Commons conference in the beautiful Okanagan valley. The conference is aimed at Empowering BC’s Creative Community, namely arts councils, arts and cultural organizations and practitioners from around the province.

“Arts Council”: One name with many different meanings and relevancies to communities throughout British Columbia. The governance, mandates, and structures of arts councils, and arts and culture organizations is wide-ranging. Time and resources are tight. So how do you go about creating a plan for YOUR organization’s dream? The “Dreaming and Doing Takes Planning” workshop will provide attendees with a roadmap on approaches to strategic planning for your organization and cultural planning for your community. It will offer simple, actionable steps for your planning committee to avoid the often-resulting ‘Franken-plan’*. Attendees will roll up their sleeves and participate in phases of a guided mock planning process. The workshop will incorporate lessons learned, and include methods and techniques for engagement to ensure your plan’s adoption, success and relevancy.

A plan cobbled together from other organization’s plans.

Thanks to Arts BC, the Penticton Arts Council and Okanagan School of Arts for hosting this year’s conference.
