Qualicum Beach Digital Media Studio

How does a small, Vancouver Island town become an attractive, growing creative marketplace? By offering big city assets like co-working space, peer networking and training. Patricia identified an opportunity to grow a talent base of creative workers in the region, in keeping with the Town’s cultural plan and Youth and Young Families Attraction Strategy, and thus The Qualicum Beach Digital Media Studio was born – a co-working space for the region’s growing base of creative workers to collaborate, connect and grow technology from idea to market.

To conserve the town’s unique heritage and identity, Patricia led the project team for the conversion of the 100 year-old train station to the Qualicum Beach Digital Media Studio. As an extended effort, Patricia secured the TELUS for Good cause marketing campaign for the studio’s launch and achieved a prominent web presence on SIGGRAPH’s 2014 conference homepage, resulting in nearly 100,000 views.

“The (studio) will give entrepreneurs and students the opportunity to grow their ideas and businesses while living in a truly idyllic setting….It’s great to see projects that make having a career in B.C.’s vibrant tech sector more accessible from anywhere in the province.” – The Hon. Andrew Wilkinson, Minister of Technology, Innovation and Citizens’ Services. June 9, 2014.
